The Design of PS5

Sony officially released black and white DualSense controllers for PS5 back on 7 April. The console itself also has a black and white design that perfectly complements controllers’ colors. The PS5’s color scheme is a big departure from an all-black scheme which has become a hallmark of all PlayStation consoles since PS3.

Initially, fans were not sure whether or not they can place the console horizontally because of its “weavier” body. It is worth mentioning that PS5 will primarily stand vertically Just like Xbox Series X. However, you can also place it horizontally underneath a monitor or TV depending on available space and your taste. PS5 also comes with a lot of accessories (more on them later) including a stand that is compatible with both orientations. You will also find USB-A and USB-C ports and heat vents at the top.

PS5 game console is rather tall and thin which is a far cry from Microsoft Xbox X Series which looks more like a PC. PlayStation 5 remains steady thanks to a circular base at the bottom.

PS5 will also be available in two varieties, one with an optical disc drive and a disc-less Digital Edition. Both the variants are almost identical. However, the Digital Edition lacks the bulk that houses the disc drive on the bottom right, and therefore, it is slightly slimmer. Similarly, it will also be cheaper than the disc version.

Technical Specifications

PS5 will also considerably boost the game load times using patented SSD drives. The SSD will offer 5.5GB/s and 825GB of performance and storage respectively. Similarly, the users must install all the games to the built-in hard drive to maximize the benefits of the speed features. Not to mention, PS5 will also support 3D audio, 4K graphics at 120Hz refresh rate, and of course, 8K graphics. Epic Games demonstrated the working of PS5 dynamic lighting effects and cinematic 8K showing by a stunning trailer of Unreal 5 on PS5.

PS5 will feature a custom AMD RDNA 20-based GPU and an eight-core AMD Zen 2 CPU. The custom AMD chips will use different frequencies both on GPU and CPU to provide power equivalent to 10.28 of teraflops.

Accessories for PS5

Moving forward, Sony is also going to provide several accessories for PS5. Some of these accessories include a media remote, a new HD camera, and a DualSense charging station. Furthermore, you would also be able to buy a Pulse 3D wireless headset for PS5. However, there is no confirmation of the price or release date of any of these accessories. Sony may release them with PS5 game console or bring them out separately on different occasions.

PS5 DualSense Controllers

No article about PS5 design reveal is complete without mentioning the DualSense controllers for PS5. Released on 7th April 2020, the controllers feature haptic feedback, and adaptive triggers. They also allow you to share gameplay content through a “create button.” The two analog sticks will be on the bottom of the controllers whereas buttons and the D-pad will be on top just like the PS4 DualShock controllers. However, each side of the DualSense will have a redesigned light bar. Similarly, it will have a touchpad mounted on the center as well.
